

The animals are separated from the surroundings by a fence of low-alloy steel plates, the fencing reaching a height of 145 cm. The structure does not contain hidden breeding facilities. The red panda exhibit is designed to house an adult pair and its offspring all year round. The plant list specifies the Latin names of the plants used for this exhibit.

The enclosure is dominated by two fully grown hornbeams. The most visually conspicuous plants comprise pine (three species) and bamboo (six species), while rhododendrons are to be added in the future as well. The intention for the landscaping and planting of the enclosure and the surrounding area was to closely emulate the habitat of the foothills of the Himalayas. The red panda exhibit covers a total area of 871 m², the animal enclosure 268.5 m² thereof. The combined weight of these rocks in the enclosure and surroundings equals about 70 tons. The display mimics the conditions of the Himalayan foothills with massive limestone features dominating the grounds. The existing mixed-species forest, located near the gibbon's lake, fits the theme. The new display of red pandas shows not just these animals, but also the habitat of Asia's highest mountain ranges for the first time in the zoo.
